About the Role


Position Summary

The Key Account Manager, ideally located in New Jersey or eastern Pennsylvania, is the driving force to achieve the sales and profit goals of the company within a defined Key Account. He/she sets objectives and plans strategies to improve penetration of the account in accordance with a defined Account plan and consistent with the overall Companies Business Plan. This candidate must develop hands-on application knowledge of Division’s products, key technologies and competencies and actively seeks and articulates ways in which to position our products within the customer’s brands and product portfolio in order to generate sustained, profitable sales growth. He/she will consistently display a high degree of energy and entrepreneurial drive across a range of subjects and disciplines in order to build strong interdependent customer relationships including but not limited to; Negotiation, Planning and Project Management, Finance (Pricing, Margins, Trading Terms, and Value Chain Understanding, etc.) Supply chain, Forecasting, Marketing and Brand understanding, Applications and Technical understanding.) The role is a key face of the company and needs operate in an extremely professional manner and in compliance with all legal and ethical business practices. He/she must at all times keep the Director of Sales and/or VP of Sales informed of important market place and/or business issues that might affect the Company as well as providing recommended action for such issues.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Maintain and Drive Sales and Gross Profit at defined accounts within the Sales Territory to achieve and exceed annual sales and profitability budgets.
  • Ensure all financial and supply chain metrics are maintained and improved. (Including but not limited to inventory levels, trading terms, incentive schemes, lead times, risk management, etc.)
  • Maintain a high degree of direct call frequency in order to build multi-level relationships and strong customer intimacy.
  • Bring in Senior Management as required and map and articulate various decision matrices with the organization (both local and internationally as appropriate).
  • Develops hands-on application knowledge of Division’s products, key technologies and competencies and actively seeks and articulates ways in which to successfully and sustainable position our products within the customers brand and product portfolio.
  • Develop winning sales strategies and account plans aligned with the overall company plans and the major brands/categories needs of the customer. Identify and exploit new business opportunities including “disruptive” ideas and approaches which increases the pace of growth and profitability and builds competitive barriers to entry.
  • Build internal support to the overall objectives of the major customers/territory and negotiate/motivate and enroll internal Symrise personnel behind these strategies. Responsible for priority setting and acts as a facilitator between Symrise functions and as required.
  • Responsible for the timely completion of all required reports, including but not limited to expense reports, quarterly reports, budgets, monthly, quarterly and annual forecasts, new business models and investment decisions, etc.

About You


Required Qualifications

  • BS in Chemistry, Food Science or related field or BA in business, MBA is a plus.
  • 5 to 10 years experience in ingredient/flavor sales or in a technical R&D type of role within the flavor / food & beverage industry.
  • Must have worked with multifaceted multinational organizations.
  • Must have a good understanding of the food and flavors market.
  • Ability to sell a vast portfolio of products.
  • Strong negotiation skills and experience.
  • Able to prioritize, plan, organize and follow through on projects.
  • Strong leadership and strategic thinking skills. Able to motivate and enroll people that are not his or her direct reports.
  • Able to adapt to different cultural situations and link with key customer contacts at all levels to ensure timely, accurate information flow within Symrise.
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Consistently displaying a high degree of energy and entrepreneurial drive across a range of subjects and disciplines.
  • Know the operational techniques and requirements of Operations, Marketing, Finance and Technical Services departments in the Division and establish an effective working relationship with each.
  • Able to maintain confidentiality of information.
  • Must live within a commutable distance to Western NJ near the Philadelphia border.
